Ever since Generative AI came to the center stage, everybody’s attention is on the potential ramifications of AI. But AI is developing a different form, at a more quicker pace than what we are currently anticipating.

A new kind of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is in the process of being created, which is called Superintelligence. This Superintelligence is going to supersede human intelligence and is further going to be far more focused, impactful, and even could have ramifications, not necessarily very pleasant.

Open AI has already started work on Superintelligence Alignment project where it is seeking to align Superintelligence along with the human values and goals.

The concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI) superseding human intelligence throws up some intrinsic legal, policy and regulatory ramifications. At the time of writing, when the world has still not yet crystallized the legal nuances concerning Artificial Intelligence, the legalities concerning Superintelligence seem to be miles away. However, given the quantum leap of evolution that is taking place in Superintelligence evolution process, it is imperative that the legal, policy and regulatory aspects of Superintelligence must be addressed right now, at the time when Superintelligence is still evolving.

This becomes all the more essential given the fact that Superintelligence could assume an existential threat to human mankind. Hence, the legalities and legal nuances governing Superintelligence must be made an integral part of the Superintelligence development process.

This book seeks to identify the legal, policy and regulatory nuances, issues and aspects pertaining to Superintelligence as are currently visible. We need to appreciate the fact that Superintelligence is in the process of evolution and hence, since Superintelligence hasn’t yet arrived, it is impossible to predict with absolute accuracy, the legalities connected therewith.

However, on the basis of the current work done by the Author on Artificial Intelligence (AI) law, the author has highlighted some of the key important legal nuances, issues and aspects pertaining to Super Intelligence as an early warning signal approach.

The legalities and legal nuances pertaining to Superintelligence need to be integrally kept in mind, by policy makers and law makers as also by the technical community as they go forward in the direction of not just developing and further evolving highly sophisticated Superintelligence algorithms, but also as they go forward in trying to come up with the legal roadmap for regulating the Super Intelligence.

This book could start the discussion and debate on the legalities pertaining to Superintelligence. Humanity needs to act as a race and start working together, rising above their parochial interests to deal with the legalities of this new kind of Superintelligence which could endanger human life and civilization.
